Failure mode - Cummins 6.7L ISB (Ram HD)

EGR valve sooting / failure

Reliability tier: verified - verify before ordering, see /disclosure/

Symptoms

Root cause

Exhaust soot (heavy with city cycles and frequent regens) cakes the EGR valve pintle until it sticks. Related: cooler condition and turbo soot production. Carbon-loaded intake (CCV oil mist + soot) accelerates it.

Diagnosis

Fixes

clean the valve (if pintle moves freely after cleaning, reinstall); replace when worn/stuck ()

reduce the soot load: CCV filter fresh, regen health / duty cycle addressed ()
